We offer training in Social Life Cycle Assessment (social footprint and handprint), Human Rights Due Diligence, Social Spend Analysis and Social Net Positive assessment.
Our trainings are available online quarterly. We also provide private or public trainings tailored to address your goals and needs, both online or onsite. Face to face training can be in the greater Boston area or at your organization’s location.
SLCA Training.
Learn how to apply Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA) in the context of a social responsibility program. This concise course includes both theoretical and hands-on components and exercises that will enable participants to understand and successfully apply SLCA on their own. Participants will learn how to model their product or corporate supply chain, identify hotspots and calculate a social footprint. The insights gained can be applied to support decision- making in a variety of departments, e.g. supply chain management, product development, ethical compliance, purchasing, risk assessment, community investments, marketing and communications. The course will make use of the Social Hotspots Database Risk Mapping tool, and the Social Hotspots Database License in Sima Pro. This course also provides a useful introduction to our spend analysis and net positive assessment approaches.
Upon successful program completion, you will be able to:
- Discuss the background and need for SLCA;
- Compare the focus, function and characteristics of different social responsibility tools;
- Apply SLCA following the principles outlined in globally-adopted guidelines: The UNEP SETAC SLCA Guidelines;
- Measure product-specific and company-wide social footprints, and identify social hotspots for products and for the company as a whole;
- Understand the data sources, modeling approaches, and risk assessment methods that are used in the Social Hotspot Database;
- Integrate SLCA results in sustainability reporting and corporate social responsibility communications and strategy;
- Be reflective about current limitations, strengths, weaknesses, barriers and opportunities associated with the application of these methods in industry and policymaking.

Human Rights Due Diligence.
This short course provides fundamental background on human rights: what they are, what they represent, and why they are important. It will also give you an understanding of how human rights are relevant for business based on the UN Guiding Principles.
Participants will gain deep insights and practical knowledge of Human Rights Due Diligence, which has been identified as the essential first step in social responsibility. You will be equipped with know-how, tools and solutions to help you identify, assess and manage human rights impacts of your operations, supply chains and other business relationships.

Social Spend Analysis.
This short course will introduce sustainability-related Spend Analysis used by many organizations to understand and prioritize ‘hotspots’ in their supply chains. The course will present the rationale for Spend Analysis in the context of the Sustainability Purchasing Leadership Council’s Principles of Leadership in Sustainable Purchasing. It will also give you the ability to organize and conduct a social Spend Analysis for your organization.
By the end of this short course you will be able to:
